New Web Based Word Processing Program

AjaxWrite ScreenshotA new web based word processing program has come out called AjaxWrite. It is a very functional word processor with the look and feel of Word that can open and save Microsoft Word documents along with OpenOffice documents to your computer and all you need is the Firefox browser. It is what the industry calls a platform independent program which means it will run on any computer regardless of the operating system such as Windows, Mac, Linux etc. For more details, click here.


Thunderbird and Lightning

With the recent release of Lightning 0.1 for Thunderbird 1.5, Mozilla has made a great leap forward in creating a top-notch open source replacement for Microsoft’s Outlook.  What is Lightning 0.1?  It is a calendar extension for Mozilla’s Thunderbird email client which provides calendaring and to-do task listing.  For more details, click here.  For those of you who want a great email client that is secure and competitive to Outlook, check out Thunderbird with Lightning from Mozilla.

IE 7 Beta 2 Refresh

Microsoft recently provided a refresh release to its beta testing version of Internet Explorer 7.  Microsoft claims this version is feature complete.  Personally, I find the new IE browser to be a great improvement over IE6 and at this time, it is my recommended browser.  Sorry, Firefox fans, but IE 7 is better than Firefox 1.5.  For more information click here.

Firefox 2.0 in the Works

Mozilla is in the process of working on Firefox 2.0.  This week, they have released an alpha version of the software for testing purposes.  One of the new features may include anti-phising capabilities.  The test version is called Bon Echo Alpha 1.  For more details go to click here and click on the Bon Echo Alpha 1 link.

Microsoft Delays Windows Vista for Consumers

Microsoft claims to be delaying the consumer versions of Windows Vista because PC manufacturers didn’t want it introduced during the holiday season and because they wanted to improve overall quality.  I wonder about the second reason as Microsoft will be releasing the business versions in the fall on schedule.  The consumer versions are due to come out in the beginning of 2007.  The consumer versions of Vista are: Vista Home Basic, Vista Home Premium, and Vista Ultimate.
