Ultra-Mobile PCs
Last week at CeBIT, Microsoft along with several partners revealed to the attendees what their “Origami” project was and that is a brand new type of portable PCs called Ultra-Mobile PCs. The devices look cool and are small enough to fit in the hand and weigh about 2 pounds and run on Windows XP Tablet. I think this is a great new concept for PCs for both the casual as well as the business user, however, many people in the tech industry are balking at the new devices. Why are they doing so? That is a good question. I think they don’t want to support another device as it’ll give them more work. I hail this new device as the beginning of a new generation of PCs. Yes, these new devices have some limitations, but this is only the first generation of UMPC devices. I’m sure with time each generation will be better. Look at the desktop PC for an example.
